Sam is a big, beautiful dog. He is mixed with Alaskan Malamute, Siberian Husky, German Shepherd, American Bulldog, Samoyed, and more (ask your caseworker for more details!) He loves other dogs and is a very sweet guy. He adapts well to dogs of all ages, sizes, and play styles. He is not fond of being overly handled and belly rubs are a big no go. He loves to have his head and back scratched but he's not a cuddly dog. He is cautious around new people and will need an owner with patience to build his trust but he is getting better with more socializing.  He can be good with some cats that are extremely dog savvy but when they run he will chase/focus on them for awhile as he wants to play. He is extremely rough and cannot be around little kids. Small kids scare him and he reacts very badly around them and due to this, its not safe for him to be in a house with small kids. Like a typical German Shepherd, he can be very mouthy and nippy.  He's quickly learning not to chase, nip or herd people but will need time to work on this.  He's a sweet dog but will need ongoing training and an owner with German Shepherd or Husky breed experience. At first he did not have good leash manners but has gotten much better with continual work and training.  He now knows "come", "sit", "down", and the release command "break".  He's still learning "place" but picking it up very quickly.  While he knows these commands, he personality is very stubborn and doesn't want to do the command right away questioning "will you make me sit?"  Talk about a typical husky personality!

Sam was rescued from a partner rescue in Texas.  He arrived to his Virginia foster on April 25th.
