Amelie may be a tiny girl, but she is as sweet and low maintenance as they come! She is one of our older adoptees with a heart of gold and she would really love a great bed to nap on for her last years. We have had Amelie since November, and while progress has been slow, it has been wonderful to watch her slowly come out of her shell. Amelie loves to spend her days napping and following her foster from room to room. She also finds mealtimes to be the best! Amelie is very relaxed around other dogs and has no issues with resource guarding. She takes treats very gently and eats like the lovely lady she is. Amelie finds her crate to be her safe space. She will lay on her dog bed as she gets more comfortable, however when she is unsure of a new situation, she likes to have her crate on standby. Here she can watch the world from her own distance until she feels a new person/situation is ok. Amelie also prefers to be crated or placed in a small room at first when her family leaves the house. Again, a big house is scary to her right now and she needs the comfort of her crate. As she settles into a new home, this may change, but plan to have a crate on hand for her. With Amelie’s age, it would be best if she went to a home without small children or high energy dogs. Amelie likes kids and dogs, however she is not comfortable with the extra chaos they bring into a home. Are dogs out for Amelie? No! She would do great with another older or very chill doggie friend. Someone a bit more her speed. Amelie is currently fostered with cats and shows no interest in them. Amelie is in good health for a girl her age. She does have some arthritis and is on daily medication to help with the pain. While she can do some steps, lots of steps would not be a good match for her joints. So, what would Amelie’s ideal home look like? Something on the quieter side with patient adopters who understand she is going to need time to decompress. Whenever we rescue older dogs, we don’t know what they have been through. In Amelie’s case, her life has led to her being very cautious around new people and surroundings. She will need time to warm up to new people and places. However, once we find that perfect adopter, they are going to have one heck of a sweet girls on their hands!
