Mama Apple and her six puppies Angel, Amber, Alamo, Axel, Alvin, and Abbie were transferred from a partner rescue in Texas.  Apple was left tied to a chain and the owners threatened to dump them all in a field if SSR did not take them.
Apple is house trained, and crate trained, she sleeps in her crate at night (and sometimes puts herself to bed when she is tired).  If she is going to be home alone during the day sometimes she gets crated and sometimes she is left free. When she is left free, she is always laying by the front door or in her bed when we get home, ready to greet us. She is very happy to see you when you come home with lots of affectionate nuzzling and body leans. When we are just lounging, Apple is a bit more independent, she likes to be in the same room as you or at least within eye/earshot of you. While she is always accepting of being approached to be petted/loved, she rarely approaches you unsolicited for affection, she is not a clingy/velcro dog.
In social situations Apple is sometimes a little but nervous becoming a bit more clingy and a bit whiny but usually settles with time.
She generally minds her manners overall, she doesn’t get into the trash or counter surf.  If you are eating something on the couch she may approach for a quick sniff but does not beg and will walk away. She does not chew on furniture or shoes, etc., she knows which items are her toys and which are not. When she is feeling playful she will pull through her toy basket to find the toy she wants and either happily plop down and chew on it (if its a chew toy) or bring it to you if its a throw toy.
When placed in a fenced yard Apple doesn’t really know what to do with herself so she just kind of stands next to you and hangs out. I think she could easily get used to a fenced yard but we don’t have a fenced yard so it is not something we really work on.
Apple loves to go on walks. Currently she gets walked 3 times a day. She gets about a B to a B+ when it comes to walking on leash. At the beginning of the walk when she is excited she pulls a bit (not terribly) but we are working on that. She also pays a bit too much attention to wildlife and other dogs but otherwise is happy to walk or jog next to you enjoying the fresh air.
When it comes to human interactions apple is very accepting. We have played with her ears, lips, eyes, paws, tail and she takes it all in stride. She does not resource guard either as we have taken her toys and food from her with no issue. From what we have seen she has not met a person that she didn’t like, she has always been friendly/affectionate to adults and children alike.
Car rides are a breeze with this girl, she is very laid back. She will happily hop in the
car with you and ride anywhere you want. The longest we have had her in the car was about 1.75 hrs and she slept for about 80% of that, and looked out the window the rest of the time. Oddly enough she is not really into the whole sticking her head out the window that most dogs love to do.
When it comes to other dogs Apple is very dog selective. It is not that she can't be around other dogs, she was housed with her pal Titan for several weeks before we got her and she had to get close enough to another dog to be able to have puppies in her previous life, but introductions at this point are long and slow. We are currently working with her and she has made excellent progress but she will need continued professional training post adoption.
She has not been cat tested but would assume an environment with cats is not a good fit for her.
