HELP US SAVE LIVES
Join the SSR Foster Family
Shenandoah Shepherd Rescue is a foster-based rescue, meaning we do not have a facility where our dogs are kenneled. We only board dogs when it is an emergency. Without available foster parents, we cannot rescue dogs.
We are always seeking foster homes - unfortunately there is never a shortage of dogs in need.
Fostering is one of the most rewarding and life-changing activities you can ever do. To be able to bring dogs into your home, bring them back to health, restore their spirit, and find them loving forever homes is an indescribable feeling.
What Does Fostering Mean and What Is Expected of me?
What exactly does fostering mean? It means bringing a homeless dog into your home, caring for them and providing them with affection and care until their Forever Family comes along.
the benefits of fostering are numerous!
Fostering is a wonderful thing for rescues like us, but it can be beneficial to the one doing the fostering in so many ways! Here are just a few ways fostering can enrich your life:
fostering saves lives
As a foster based rescue, we rely on available foster homes to save dogs. If we have no foster homes, we can't save more dogs. By fostering, you have a direct impact on the amount of lives we can save every year!
you make a direct positive impact on a dog's future
We take in dogs that have experienced abuse, cruelty, neglect, abandonment, etc. As a foster, you have the chance and opportunity to gain a dogs trust, show them human touch, love (perhaps for the first time), provide an environment for them to feel safe, and watch them transform before your eyes!
the family loves it!
Children can benefit from fostering as a way to introduce responsibility, selflessness, a way to educate about animals, and is also a great way to "test" the idea of a permanent animal into the home in the future.
speaking of family... you'll help complete someone else's!
When the day comes that your foster finds their Forever Home, the rewarding feeling you will experience is something very special. You'll make connections and sometimes friendships with the adoptive doggy parents that can last for a lifetime! You will feel a sense of pride, in knowing what you helped that dog accomplish in their time with you. You will feel overjoyed! And while certainly, some goodbyes can be tough, knowing that a dog has found their happy ending and that another precious life awaits to be afforded your gifts is as good of a feeling as there is!
